Ceilidh: Union Street Band with caller Liz Calderbank

Saturday 10th March 2012 7:30pm · Venue: Mellor Brook Community Centre
The 5th Mellor Brook Fiddle Day will culminate in an evening ceilidh with Liz Calderbank calling the dances to be played by The Union Street Band. The evening will be punctuated by various guest performances and it is hoped participants from the fiddle workshops, held earlier in the day, will contribute to the music heard. Union Street specialise in reworking tunes from the north west, many of them rediscovered after spending many years neglected and unheard. Band leader Julian Taylor has researched the region’s musical traditions and uncovered old manuscripts from local collections. The band has then crafted them into exciting new arrangements introducing a characteristic “oomph”. The night will be punctuated by special guest appearances and will afford fiddlers the opportunity to play for the dancers.
