Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller plus support

Saturday 14th April 2012 9:00pm · Venue: Mellor Brook Community Centre

Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller are two very talented, shining new stars on the Scottish Music scene. Since winning the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2008 it has been a whirlwind rise for the young Scots duo who combine instrumental versatility with sublime harmonies and heart-rending performances of traditional songs. They primarily perform Scottish song, however also incorporate fiddle, piano and Scottish stepdance into their sets. Their debut album, ‘In a Bleeze’ was received exceptionally well with plenty of airplay both in Scotland and England earning them the award for ‘Up and Coming Artist Of The Year’ at the MG ALBA Awards 2008 and a nomination in the ‘Horizon’ category for the BBC Folk Awards 2009 and also winning the Hancock ‘Horizon Award for Best Newcomer’ in 2009.

Jeana and Siobhan met at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where they were both studying for a BA in Scottish Music. Together the girls have performed on radio and TV, at folk clubs all over the UK and at many large festivals including Cambridge, Cropredy, Towersey, Celtic Connections and Orkney. A year ago, the girls released their second album, Shadows Tall. Short samples of tracks can be heard on their website.

Siobhan won the Citty Finlayson Scots Singer of the Year 2011 award at the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in Perth on the 3rd of December.

For this English tour, the girls will be accompanied by Aaron Jones, of Old Blind Dogs on guitar.

Martin Ellison was due to unveil his latest musical project here at Mellor Brook but will not now be able to appear. He is to undergo an operation which will prevent him playing for a month or so. Shamrock Promotions wishes him a speedy recovery and hopes he will bring his new musical offering to the good folk of Mellor Brook sometime in the near future.

Opening up on the night will be melodeon player / singer, Paul Russell. Paul performed at the centre back in 2004 accompanying Julian Taylor in a show headlined by Hoover The Dog.
